In the New York Times this morning, there was an interesting article on red wine and its ability to inhibit certain types of cancer. The researchers at the University of Illinois have found that the skin of the grape that contains resveratrol helps fight the known causes of tumors and cancer cells and blocks the actions of certain carcinogens. In the same study, the Illinois researchers singled out reseveratol over other potential research subjects because resveratrol shows signs of anti-inflammatory benefits. When the experiment was nearing its end, one of the lead scientists determined that it could could make human leukemia cells stop proliferating and shows no signs of toxic effects on the study’s subjects.
